With its abundant year round sunshine and warm weather, Cyprus is perfect for indulging in your favourite outdoor activities or interests.

Play a round of golf at one of the island’s purpose-built resorts set in peaceful surroundings with spectacular views. Cycling and hiking are an enjoyable way both to keep fit and to explore the island. Short distances mean that cyclists can hone their skills on a variety of surfaces ranging from flat country roads to mountain tracks along peaceful, unfrequented and scenic routes that have been tested by many cycling champions.

Perhaps the best way to see a country is on foot. If you love the great outdoors and want to improve your fitness, hiking is a far better way to do so than looking out through the window of a car. Cyprus has numerous signposted paths or nature trails, some more challenging than others, but all are a feast for the senses, especially in the springtime when you can experience the sights, sounds and smells of nature at first hand. Cyprus is on European Path E4, a long distance path, which starts from Gibraltar to Cyprus. In Cyprus the path starts at Larnaca airport, traverses the Troodos mountains and the Akamas peninsula, travelling through extremely beautiful regions and areas of great ecological, historical archaeological, cultural and scientific significance, before ending at Paos airport.

If you'd rather watch than do, you could catch a top class international sporting fixture while you’re here, such as the annual Cyprus Car Rally in September or an international cycling tournament. If you're lucky you might be able to watch Marcos Baghdatis play in the Davis Cup tennis tournament or you could watch top tennis juniors play in the annual ITF tennis tournament.

Being an island, water sports feature strongly among the many activities available. Discover the magic of the underwater world by snorkelling or diving in warm crystal clear seas. Windsurfing, kite surfing and sailing can be enjoyed all the year round, thanks to the steady winds and mild weather, while coastal cruising and deep-water fishing are also popular. You could even use the island as a base for a short cruise to other nearby countries.

And just in case you think it's all just sun and sea,  the Troodos peaks rising to almost 2000 metres above sea level, are high enough to provide panoramic views and snow in winter, so that it’s quite possible to spend the morning skiing and the afternoon on the beach.

Kids can pretend they're a Formula 1 driver by zooming round a go karting track in Polis, or play a game of paintball, at the new Paintball Arena near the camping site in Polis. Polis also has a bowling alley for a fun afternoon out. They'll love the Aphrodite Water Park for thrills, which offers a varied selection of rides, attractions and facilities.
